The Origins of Love
Aristophanes is considered by some scholars to be one of Plato's most brilliant literary achievements. He doesn't give a philosophical explanation of Eros, but instead tells the ideological, or the original myth of love. His speech is an explanation of why people in love say they feel whole when they have found their love partner. It also says that just as a good physician knows how to treat the body, a healthy lover knows how to moderate his desires.
