How to Use an 1176 on a Mono Overhead Recorder

I'm extremely heavy-handed, going to Pro Tools or the tape. Just boost like a man. I still compress a lot like him. With the 1176, is it always on the same setting, like really slow attack quick release? Yeah. Pretty much, 4 to 1. And then depending on what the program is, like I'm... Does the envelope ever change? Or is it pretty much the same? That's how I always use mine.
