The Eucharist Is the Sacrament of Ecclesiastical Unity
Some orthodox catholics may have a kind of aversion towards considering and considering any essential relations between the eucharist and the church. But for saint thomas, the sacramet is profoundly related to the church. And this is the first time he makes a kind of definitive statement like that in his treatise on the Eucharist. So what does it mean for theeucharist to be the sacrament of the church's unity? It seems to me that saint thomas has two things in mind. First, the eucharity is a sign of the church’s unity. Second, the euchsarist is the cause, is a cause of the church't unity.
