The modern world rejects imitation in favor of originality at all costs. Fashion is a desire for innovation for its own sake and a strong distaste for imitation. The more we condemn imitation, the more we surrender to it under various guises. This rage for originality has produced a few rare masterpieces and quite a few bizarre things.
