There's actually a lot of drama following the patent for this chemical. A man named John Wesley Hyatt improved upon the process and created something called celluloid. There was also an old buddy turned enemy of Alexander Park called Daniel Spill who was trying to claim the patent as his own. But after a bunch of back and forth in legal proceedings, the judge ruled that both parties could continue producing this new chemical.
