If something has rights, shouldn't it also have responsibilities? Western law, the idea of holding nature responsible is ridiculous. The courts besieged on every hand will crowd with suits by chunks of land. I'll promptly sue my neighbour's tree for shedding all its leaves on me. Take that tree huggers.
