The algorithm of natural selection itself is an invention of Earth. Maybe this is a very kind of peculiar thing that's where there's a bunch of chemical systems that compete against each other somehow for survival under limited resources. And maybe that's why bacteria were very lazy for a long time. Quite possibly. I tried to, as fun as it is to get into the speculation about the definitions of life and what life does and this gross network of possibilities. Honestly, for me, the strongest argument for remaining agnostic is to avoid that bias and assessing data.
