Zhang Yimoo: A Nepo Baby
Zhang Yimoo is probably the most famous of a group of filmmakers termed the fifth generation of Chinese directors. His father was like a dermatologist, but during the cultural revolution, he was pushed into working on farms. He's one of those filmmakers that was like, how are we supposed to see his films? Well, you got to get the Hong Kong VCD, that bad audio, bad picture, but at least you can watch the film,. That's how I saw most of his early ones.
