A Brief History of Education in the Middle Ages
Thomas Beckett was the son of a Norman merchant who made his fortune in textiles. His father saw to it that he got an education, as schools were becoming more and more popular. He also paid for Henry's expedition with 700 knights - which didn't go down well at first. But Thomas soon learned how to deal with ' feudal niceties' by ignoring them.
