The Tax Structure of the Ansienn Regime

The king was hedged in on all sides by political and legal fences that had to be respected. The main tax, if there was one, was the tie - a tax on land. But critically, for reasons dating back to the days of high feudalism, the nobility and the church were exempt. If nothing else happened as a result of the fiscal crisis that led to the calling of the states general in 17 89, i think the system of taxation would have seen a major overhaul.
