Tachypnea is an early warning of impending respiratory failure. The idea behind both Plasmic Exchange and IVIG is to get rid of the bad acting antibodies. Most Guillain-Barre syndrome cases require early intervention. In GBS, you want to try and remove or neutralize the pathological antibodies early.
