Are Monuments a History Lesson?
A lot of the debate has had to do with the character of the person honored. But i think it's more important to look at the history of the monument itself as an object. The monuments themselves, do they constitute art crimes? It seems hard to determine criminality when we talk about statues of columbus or confederate memorials and monuments. Somebody might think that this monument celebrates their history, while others understand that it says that they're less than human.
