There are many, many private entities racing to build an artificial general intelligence. I think a i researchers are suspect on this entire topic because their livelihood depends on it. Let's imagine somebody whose young, unattached, very smart, rather arrogant, bit of a sociopath. And so the only thing he's treading off against his one and ten at extreme wealth is the one and three million chance that he personally dies.
