The Importance of Syntax in Translations

Where English translations differ is usually where the exegetical problem is. So I tell students, look, you want to commentary on where the interpretive problems are in your tax compared to English translations. Some translators will introduce a problem that never was there. And so then the third step is textual criticism. It may be that the translations differed because some manuscripts said one thing and some said another. Then fourth step, oh, look, is there a grammatical problem? Is there a problem with just one word? And then fifth step is there a syntactical problem. How do words relate? How does God relate to love and love of God? That's syntax. Six step
