Is Pasted Code More Maintainable Than Meta Programming?

i think doing readable meta programming is one of the most interesting challenges for me in cplus, plus. There's a lot of people that just say if there's something you would call meta programming, you shouldn't be doing it. But even in those code bases, you have to fundamentally answer the question: Is copy paste or external cogeneration more maintainable here than meta programming? i'd love to give a talk on how to write readable medamedi code when you have to and only when we have to.
