Black Against Empire opens with Huey Newton's visit to China and it's mythologized. He was not a Maoist at that point, he was actually inclining toward something else. The RU delegation was given a fairly privileged status. They met Joe and Lai as most people did but the general who was instrumental in liberating Shanghai faded the group. But yet here's this group which is the preeminent Maoist group in the US and it's almost excised from history.
