There are three broad ways that we can think about a risk factor. We can classify them according to the strength of evidence and there's three broad delineations between risk factors and biomarkers. The first is a causal risk factor. The second is a systems or reporter risk factor or reporter biomarker. And then the third is biomarkers or risk factors of damage.
