Top Gun was produced by two legends in the movie business. Don Simpson died in 1996 at 52, and Jerry Brockheimer made all of his films. The producer has always been one of the most powerful figure in a film set. "It's wild to conceive of a time when like a studio could just say, I want to make this movie," he says.
