The Importance of Explanation in Psychology
If you're only finding correlations between things if you're not explaining why one variable is correlated with the other you might be insinuating that one thing causes the other. In some areas of evolutionary psychology people try to come up with explanations but I don't think they're very good explanations. It's possible genes do indeed cause a propensity for an interest in mathematics it's possible but thus far there has been no explanation made as to how the genes can actually cause certain things.
