Leopold's biography says he used to sleep in a camp bed, and had a general horror of everything that could enervate or render him effeminate. His pocket chief was only renewed on sunday mornings when going to mass. If his valets changed his towels more than once a week, they were sure to receive a good scolding from his majesty.
