The trigeminal nerve, there's three branches that are othalmic, the maxillary and the mendiblar branch. After that, you have the glossofringal nerve that controls the taste to posterior one third of the tongue. Afterwards, the hypoglosal nerve controls you motor function to your tongue. The external branch is what actually ends up enervating the cigo thyry muscle. So if you get injury to that nerve during any neckdissection, it affects the tone of the patient's voice.
