Are the Phoenicians a Subset of Canaanites?
The thing that we seem to most associate with the Phoenicians is that kind of long distance trading and settlement activity. Is it purely economic? Can we see some sort of cultural ideas about sea voyaging, migration? Like are there cultural imperatives or ideological incentives that are built in that are driving this or is it just purely about this is what we do? We're seafaring merchants. This is what we're built to do. Yeah. I always just find it helpful to imagine that those kinds of people existed ... It helps to give the world a little more texture and to make it real.
