Matthew has used some coaches ad hoc over the past few years kind of deliberately so partly because I use the chess mood content and approaches a kind of regular coach if you like talking to me. The typical standard of junior players now is just so much better than it was when he was playing, says Matthew. He also advises against obsessing about openings as games below 1800 are mostly settled by tactics - that's a bad place to start.
