What Does the Unpierced Ear Do to You?
The closed un pierced ear can only be accessed as a lost object, as something lost. When you just had un pierced ears, you didn't think about that shit. It's in the wake of the piercing that the child can then learn to long for dream about a world where ears aren't pierced and including noticing other girls without earrings which never would have been noticed before.
