The Importance of Servitude in the Social Contract

If you've given the other party to your contract, the absolute power to judge the terms of the contract, then you've essentially given up all of your rights. And so if you retain any freedom at all, you retain it only at the discretion of the government. This has always struck me as one of the arguments against social contract thinking for justifying the state's power.
