The Hidden Struggle for the H-Bomb
In May 1953, an article in Fortune magazine claimed that J. Robert Oppenheimer was a member of a traitorous conspiracy to undermine the very bomb program he had worked to create. The article spurred the Atomic Energy Commission to immediately revoke Oppenheimer's security clearance and investigate his communist connections. Despite his world-changing work on the atomic bomb, his legacy was now forever tainted. But coming up, we'll see that all his apparent innocence wasn't enough to protect him from suspicion.
