Instead of going down the path of ruminating about the negative thought, what if you ruminate about the positive thought? What if this is a relationship that's really going to change your life? The third thing i would suggest is try shifting to an active mind set. Instead of trying to prevent bad things from happening, how about focusing on giving the person compliment.
