A New Unsolved Mystery

Jessie's mam worked as a nurse and assistant to the town's only doctor, so she's seen it all. She would leave home for two or three days at a time, returning, as jessie remembered it, quote, dark around the eyes, pale and silent. This all made awareness of mortality a normal thing for anybody grown up there.
