So Sunny's a Great Bebop Master.
This is the point in the sola where he departs from the motive ve he's introduced. He starts to climb up the horn and move much more actively through the cord progression. And even while he does that, he continually returns to that ton motief. So sunny could keep bouncing the ball around and just play with that tunup motif for a really long time.
There's nothing like a good instrumental solo—that moment when a lone player stands in the spotlight and takes the helm, leading the band in an uncharted direction. On the first edition of Strong Solos, Kirk takes apart a few of his favorite solos, which a special focus on players who use motivic development, also known as theme and variations.
