Vice President Kamala Harris reaffirmed that an attack on Philippine vessels in the South China Sea would trigger a US response. The warning to Beijing came as she was visiting Manila. She said, quote, an armed attack on the Philippines armed forces, public vessels or aircraft will invoke US mutual defense commitments. This incident happened near a Philippine controlled island or reef.
