Is There a Need for Economic Experts in Politics?

There's some evidence which I talk about in the book for more progressive or left support for economic experts. And this is partly because people are so worried about climate change. So there's a feeling that it may be that experts will be needed to make the hard decisions on something like a fuel levy or climate change related tax. The politicians didn't want to criticize very directly voters, if you like, they had a view of voters that voters were very self-interested. They wanted to be quite respectful to voters, which was an interesting finding in itself. But I sense that all those years of maybe not talking very directly to voters about economics and saying, well, the Bank of England is doing
