How to Define a Gesture

I'm curious. How do we define a gesture? Is it just talking with our hands? Is it body language? Is it facial expressions? Yeah. So I think the face is being used. It's often used for emotional expression. And so I have an although I do have a student who's interested in what goes along with, you know, gesture speech mismatch,. But I have restricted it to the hand gestures that we produce in the air. They're not functional in the sense that they're not opening a jar or writing on a page.They are representational and represent things.
