Behind The Knife: The Surgery Podcast

CHAPTER

The Role of Surgery in C-Dip Colitis

In the anterior abdomen you see some clear fluid and a slightly engamidus colon with no perforation. In general, if a patient is starting on pressers and they have a c-dip infection that we think is driving it, my choice would be surgery. If you've decided the right thing to do is to collect me, take out that colon. So the patient gets to collect me. They have a rocky course in the ICU but eventually survive. And in this case, they're eventually able to undergo a reversal with an iliorectal anastomosis.
