The Thucydides Trap
Athens has grown increasingly powerful in previous years, and it seems bound to establish itself as the head of a Hellenic Empire. This is the famous Thucydides trap, that an existing great power of Sparta and this rising power, Athens, they always inevitably find themselves in conflict with each other. That peace is not possible in this situation when a great power status as such is threatened by the ascendancy of arrival. The underlying cause has to do with the median war or the war against the Persians you could say.
