TC Chaka Borde is a PhD candidate at Yale University focusing on land atmosphere interactions and urban climatology. During daytime cities cool down through convective cooling, but during nighttime they can actually heat up by bringing warmer air from aloft. The big one is still urban vegetation, you can reduce the air temperature using urban vegetation. But it is to be noted that urban vegetation can also increase humidity, which also plays a role in heat stress.
