The Fear of God

In the Bible, it's often translated as you're supposed to fear God and this doesn't make any sense for a lot of reasons because God is prototypically not the object that you can run away from or fight. So there's a sense of the experience of sacredness that is supposed to take us to the very horizon of our intelligibility. The hope is not to just throw us into horror but to take us towards horror until we are forced into a situation of confrontation with a demand to change who and what we are.
