The Mystery of the Aleph
The mathematician George Cantor died in a psychiatric hospital on January 6, 1918. His lifelong search for unattainable certainty had taken a progressive toll on him. Some of his reported symptoms resemble those associated with bipolar disorder or manic depression. With the causes of this mental illness generally attributed to genetic factors and in Cantor's ancestry, there are no known cases of the disease.
