We are often given an image of virtuous roman womanhood. But in reality, they were highly educated and independent by ancient standards. They had political lives, connections and juice outside of their husbands. Toria seems to have interceded on behalf of her husband and saved his life. It's also interesting that that gives us an account of a woman going to speak on her husband's behalf.
