The narrator projects, like, the possibility of his own salvation on to bartleby. He just kind of stops living and touches him, and he feels that he's cold. The sort of odd, wistful moment that the narrator ends, like bartleby becomes almost like a prop in in the narrator's own internal epic rather than a substantial character.
