Eileen Miles is a queer poet, so that act of that moment of confronting the reflection in the mirror is particularly fraught in this instance. I mean, it's a poem about writing and the sacredness of writing. And Miles is announcing that they can do this thing, but they're also announcing that they feel bad, even in spite of being able to do this thing when they look in the mirror.
