Is It Harder to Use a Hash Map in a Database?

A disk based storage engine seems much more complex that. I mean, that's my understanding. Is it? Is it harder to work with a data base than storing things on disk,. versu one that's in memory, i would say it's inherently harder. And everything that you implement in the like its hedder and trailer is pretty much like your pages as well.
