For decades, the Westgate had been a minor second run theater. It never was a big money maker because the dina always got the bigger movies after they had their big downtown premieres and the Westgate cut the leftovers from that. In 1970, at first it seems almost by accident, The Twelve Chairs did exactly that. And so there was really a need for the smaller neighborhood theaters to think of innovative ways to get people in the door.
