During the depression, they became very popular for their cheap food. People would make sort of quasi tomato soup by watering down the ketchup. They'd make free lemonade by just using the lemons that were left out for the ice teas. By the 19 sixties, they had an going food counter as people started ordering more and more take out. And then they did a really unfortunate redecoration in 19 68 where they kind of brick over everything with fake bricks. You know, they tile over the upper windows, making the whole place look vaguely suburban. A lot of wood and brick panelling going on. Now you could actually smoke.
