The United States has 16 species of ash trees, genus fracinus. In the early two thousands, ash was one of the most common species in the midwest. Ohio alone had an estimated four billion ash trees. 300 million ash lined the streets of michigan. Its range extends from western newfoundland to south eastern manitoba and eastern north dakota.
