In 1968, you took up a role as research officer for Kingswood Approved Schools near Bristol. Some listeners might recognise the name of that Institute because decades later, in fact, Kingswood's Assessment Centre and Secure Unit were subjects of a police operation looking into historic abuse at children's institutes in the Southwest. And there were no convictions related to Kingswood. But it does highlight a serious problem, doesn't it, at places like that? They are difficult places to manage and it's easy for places to develop a culture that isn't subject to the normal rules of society Because they're kind of closed.
