The Bermuda Triangle and Methane Hydrates
Before weather satellites, it was very common for ships and airplanes to get caught in a hurricane without much warning. The only real way to measure hurricanes was when we started having regular satellite imagery of the area. According to the US Geological Survey, there haven't been hydrates like that in the Bermuda Triangle for about 15,000 years.
