Some families left BVHM because they thought the shelter would hurt the school's reputation and lower enrollment. For those who stayed tough conversations about the shelter built a lot of trust with the school. Jennifer Founds is an eighth grade English teacher at Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School. She says having that safety net makes her feel more invested in the school.
