In the British isle, especially, we often see these little spirits that we might identify as familiar today or were sometimes identified as familiar even then. I feel like it's good to talk about a specific example here, like we have Joan Peterson who we might be as a slayer right coming to to teach her magic at night. And then 16th century cunning woman Ursula Kemp's son said his mother kept four familiar, one was a great cat, one with a white lamb,. One was a black toad, and one with a black cat; suggesting these weren't entirely natural mundane animals.
