The Magician's Trick
Humans have this drive to mentally model other consciousnesses, partly because of the intensely inescapable social means by which we evolved. We're contributing half of the magic by bringing those anthropomorphic assumptions into the room. And by playing along, we are literally training the AI model with our responses. So when it says something, we say, Oh, that's great Thanks. Could I have some more? That's the signal to the system. This was the correct answer. If you say, well, that doesn't seem to match up, then it takes that as a negative signal.
