The Problem With Oriental Barbie

Asian American journalist Kelly Cassulus addresses this in a fantastic article tracing the history of Asian Barbie. Mattel produced Mexico Barbie as part of the dolls of the world line and it sparked a huge controversy with people citing it as fanning cultural stereotypes much like Hispanic Barbie did. So these issues with representation extended not just to race, but to other categories like body types and disabilities. And this is something we're going to address a lot more as we get into the new millennia and beyond.
